5.1 Present Science to Others (Science Week)
Fifth Class used i -pads to show First Class how they had designed and constructed cars. The Fifth Class pupils explained step by step the design process and then presented their cars to First Class. Both classes were fully engaged in the Show & Tell.

Testing Lung Capacity Experiment display in 4th Class…materials needed 1.5/2litre plastic bottle filled with water, straw, basin of water
The idea is to take a deep breath and displace all the water from the plastic bottle in to the basin by blowing through the straw and in turn testing what your lung capacity is.

Making Rockets based on the Primary Science Webinar for Science Week
Demo launching our mini rockets made from straws, paper and tin foil while ensuring pupils had an awareness of the learning objective which is that moving air can make things move…
We took our mini rockets outdoors and launched them for Third Class, measuring who’s travelled the furthest.
We also took turns using the foot propelled rockets to see who was able to make it travel the furthest. It was lots of fun!

e laid all the fruit beside a huge aquarium. All sizes- Melons, plums, apples whole (or Halved). 2 0ranges (peeled and unpeeled), blueberry, grape, strawberry, etc. Children had to predict by 1pm which ones would float, sink or be suspended. They drew their 'predictions' in their copies.
Then each class was returned to see each fruit dropped into the tank. We removed the fruits before the next class came to the viewing window. THEY WERE AMAZED, because air trapped around the seeds of the melon, and the pumpkin for example, caused it to FLOAT. The blueberry sank, as did the strawberry and plum!! The unpeeled orange floated, but the peeled orange sank. All age groups learned why many of their predictions were not exactly correct :) :). We also marked the glass to show how water was displaced by the objects/fruits. (See blue mark and the eventual waterline on aquarium) It has been 6 years since we did this whole school experiment, and it is the best FUN. The anticipation and excitement (screams and yelps) was brilliant. |
