(v)Low Threshold High Ceiling (LTHC) Maths in 4th
We had lots of fun with various LTHC Maths activities.
One such activity was setting a budget of €225 and using the Smyths Catalogues to buy gifts for the whole family. There were lots of things to consider-how much wood you spend per person depending on how many are in your family? Will you leave money in the budget for wrapping paper and cards? etc…

(vi) Another LTHC activity we carried out was kitting out a room in your house as a home office. The budget was set at €200 and pupils went on the IKEA website on the iPads to chose the most suitable items within budget to create a lovely “work from home” space since Covid prevented many people from going in to their offices.
(vii)Real Life Maths-Discussing Olympic Medals in 4th Class
The pupils had to look up the medal table for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on the iPads.
They had to analyse the results deciphering what way the results are tallied and consider other options for doing this. Pupils also compared Ireland to other countries when it came to medal numbers. They also gave consideration
to whether or not the system for recording medal amounts is fair or what changes they would make.
