2.1 Lego with 'WeDo' |
|
For Engineers Week in March, 4th class had a great time exploring programming and robotics using the Lego WeDo kits. The children loved how their projects came to life by connecting the kit via bluetooth to their tablets and then creating various programme commands to bring their projects to life! Eventually, the interest from the kids in other classes- 3rd and 5th (and parents) led to Mr D. setting up a LEGO CLUB, after school. Our Parents Assoc bought hardy boxes to hold all their donations. 'Mr D' sourced the wheels . axels. batteries etc. It's just great to see all the kids down on their knees, in pairs or groups, engrossed and on a mission/challenge!
2.2 Minecraft in Fifth. |
5th class were experimenting with Minecraft. It has become one of the worlds most popular games. Pupils can create their own worlds using their creativity with the building blocks on the site. They had lots of fun experimenting with this one.
2.4They also undertook lots of challenges on Hour of Code which allowed them to experience computer programming in a fun way. It promotes the skill of problem solving in a logical and creative way. All classes right down to Jun Infants enjoy Hour of Code and all classes partipate throughout the year. |
2.3 We Used ICT to Make Our Own Books!
First, we talked about our ideas and stories. We selected a series of art/ pictures , planned and typed our own stories on Storybird.com. We edited them before getting them published! Next, Ms Ann printed them in colour and bound them. Finally, we wrapped them with lovely Christmas paper and proudly presented them to our parents as a very special Christmas gift.
