3.5 Investigating local historical engineering in Tralee.
Here are some photos from our Sixth Class. We visited historical sites around Tralee, with the help of local historians. We observed the difference between Victorian and Georgian buildings. We were shown how limestone, sandstone, bronze and iron was used in various sculptures , buildings Georgian railings and our newly paved Town Square . We were amazed to see an old map which showed that once upon a time, a river, the 'Main River' flowed through the centre of Tralee, with 3 bridges to help pedestrians cross. The river was diverted undersground in the 1800s.The Desmond and Geraldine Eras have shaped our town and we were shown the landmarks and boundaries which are still visible today. We saw the cast iron cannons from the Crimean war outside our Courthouse and ended our walk by walking the grounds of the oldest standing building in Tralee: St Johns Church of Ireland and its cemetary, in Ashe Street.
